What is CBD ? How does CBD Work?
Everything you always wanted to know... and some of the reported Benefits of CBD.

So what is CBD ?
Now more than ever before the therapeutic properties of Cannabis are being researched and tested by scientists all over the world. The 2 most studied variations of cannabis are marijuana and Hemp. The Cannabis plant has a been used by people for thousands of years. The flowers or what we often call “Buds” are often used as a natural remedy for many common ailments.
The flowers grow a resin called a trichome that contains more than 100 compounds known as “cannabinoids”. The 2 primary cannabinoids are CBD and THC, but they act differently in our minds and our bodies. Marijuana grows large concentrations of THC (25%) and small concentrations of CBD (3%), While hemp grows large concentrations of CBD (17%) and microscopic amounts of THC (.03%)
THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the main psychoactive cannabinoid found mostly in Marijuana and causes the “high” sensation. However, unlike THC, CBD (Cannabidiol) mostly found in hemp, is not considered psychoactive (No “high”), but still offers very good benefits on its own.
This quality makes CBD an appealing option for those who are looking for symptom relief without the mind-altering effects of marijuana.

Ok then, what Is CBD Hemp Oil ?
CBD oil is made by extracting CBD cannabinoid rich resin off the flowers of the hemp plant. This resin contains the cannabinoids CBD, CBG, CBN (the last 2 we will discuss later) terpenes, and a tiny amount of THC (.03%) This is what we call Full Spectrum Resin.
To make Full Spectrum Oil, the resin is diluted with a carrier oil like “fractionated” (cheap) coconut or hemp seed oil. We prefer to use pumpkin seed oil and sweet almond oil. Coconut oil is very greasy and hemp seed oil tastes like crap.
To make a Broad Spectrum Oil, we must first extract out that tiny bit of THC. To do this, we must use a distillation machine… much like an old alcohol stil, but far more advanced. This Broad Spectrum Oil still has all the cannabinoids and the terpenes just no more THC. But FYI.. the dosage of MGs in this Broad Spectrum Oil just like the Full Spectrum Oil often represents a total of all of the cannabinoids, not just the CBD. Read the label !
To make a CBD Isolate Oil, we use the same process as Broad Spectrum but we capture or “isolate” only the CBD to make pure (99.8%) CBD oil. Then we dilute it with our much better tasting and healthier carrier oils.
So, which is the Best? Therein lies the debate. If you have a job that tests for THC we recommend using a CBD Isolate to be safe. Some people like using broad spectrum and full spectrum because they get some medicinal effects from the hemp terpenes and the other cannabinoids CBG and CBN.
But it is really up to you. Try different ones and see what works best for you… Don’t worry it is impossible to overdose.. but always start with small doses.. Be safe.

So How Does CBD Work?
The discovery of the “endocannabinoid system” in our bodies has significantly advanced our understanding of health and disease. It has major implications for nearly every area of medical science.
This system plays a crucial role in regulating a broad range of physiological processes that affect our everyday experience – our mood, our energy level, our intestinal fortitude, immune activity, blood pressure, bone density, glucose metabolism, stress, hunger and even how we experience pain.
See… the membranes of the cells in our brain and on all of our organs have thousands of “cannabinoid receptors” that either turn on or turn off cellular function. CBD and THC molecules interact with these receptors in a variety of different ways to either stimulate or relax a certain function. So.. What happens if this endocannabinoid system doesn’t function properly? In a word, disease.
The latest science has shown that the endocannabinoid system is dysregulated in nearly all pathological (disease) conditions. So, it stands to reason that “regulating the endocannabinoid system activity may have therapeutic potential in almost all disease processes.”
The working theory is that by stimulating or enhancing the endocannabinoid system with cannabinoids like CBD and THC, it may slow down or in some cases even stop disease progression. How cool is that !
Did you know that the brain has 1000 times more cannabinoid receptors than pain receptors… Ask yourself why are they there ? Answer – we were designed to consume cannabis !!!

How CBD molecules interact with cellular membrane receptors

The Endocannabinoid System
Our endocannabinoid System consists primarily of cannabinoid receptors. These receptors play a pivotal role in the biochemical processes that govern our mood, memory, pain, appetite and more. The two main cannabinoid receptors are CB1 and CB2. They can be found throughout our entire bodies from the brain and nervous system, to the internal organs and even the skin. Cannabinoids like THC & CBD bind with these receptors activating and improving cellular reactions. THC binds with the CB1 receptors and CBD binds with the CB2 receptors. See the chart below for more details.
